Outstanding in the Field - Blooming Glen Farm - 2023

This was such a magical night with some of our favorite people at one of our favorite places. In the words of Farmer Tom, “September is around the time the traveling food circus comes to town.” We’ve been CSA members (Community Supported Agriculture) at Blooming Glen Farm run by Tricia Borneman and Tom Murtha since 2012, and always heard about this amazing dinner they hosted called Outstanding in the Field. We've been lucky to experience it a couple of times now, and this night last year was so special.

The guest chefs were Ashley Pellegrino and Christopher Sanchez from Black Eyed Susans on LBI, a restaurant I know is near and dear to Tricia and Tom. During cocktail hour there were oysters from Barnegat Oyster Collective (where I had my first ever oyster!) and beer from our local brewery Free Will, including a special beer called "A Time to Laugh" used with Crimson Clover grown at Blooming Glen Farm. During dinner, each course was paired with a wine from Wayvine, and to say the meal was one of the best in my lifetime was an understatement. It included scallops, swordfish and pork all prepared with ingridients from the farm. For dessert we had Peach Spoon bread served with Blooming Glen herbs and creme anglaise. And of course the company was top notch. We had the pleasure of sharing the meal with Tricia and Tom, their daughter Dakota and her friend Nikki home from college, and our friends Linda and Eric who own and run Bluestem Botanicals, plus all the other lovely folks we met at the never ending table that is always so gorgeous!

Tricia reminded me a few times I wasn't working, but photography and these people make me happy. So I brought my "not on the job" camera with me, and I'm so glad I have these memories to look back on with these amazing friends over an amazing meal. Grateful to Tricia and Tom for their friendship and all they do to keep my family and a whole community fed with the best organic goodies around!
